B-17 Calendar of events

Please Note: We are following state and national guidance regarding COVID-19, many events listed on our calendar have been canceled or postponed. Please check with the event organizer to determine the status of a particular event listed here.

We are currently awaiting the direction of our State Governor as to when we can re-open. When that announcement is made, we will phase back into business again. We will continue to instill Social Distancing practices when open.

We miss being at the Hangar too!

Safety Recognition Month

May is Safety recognition month. It would be nice to post something fun in the hangar about how many days we’ve gone without an accident or the fact that we are Workers Comp claim free!

All crew members should review the safety manual.

Safety Crew should discuss what they would like to address at the annual safety orientation scheduled for June 27th, 2020. Has a CPR or other safety specialist been scheduled to give a class yet? Do we want to do something different this year to mix it up and make it interesting? This would be a good time to confirm we have something ready to go. Is the Safety Manual in good keeping? Have we been conducting monthly safety walkthroughs and training our crew members regarding where all the fire extinguishers are and other safety needs? Did we create a system to verify that each individual has been checked off for a safety tour? This should not be scary, it should be a simple process. Just a process. ;0)

February 20th Veterans Coffee Club Special Guests VFW #661 Uniform Collection

One of the nation’s largest military uniform collections is partnering with B-17 Alliance Foundation:

Under these Wings: We Preserve American History. We Educate Generations. We Inspire Community.

Thomas Vanderhoof has been a long-time member of the VFW 661. He is a key leader for the vast uniform collection that this VFW #661 has organized and is preserving along with the stories they represent.

B-17 Alliance and VFW #661 are honored to be working together to provide outreach and educational service to our community. Thomas will speak regarding their collection and how it came to be.

Thomas and his crew have provided display uniforms for numerous events hosted by B-17 Alliance Foundation. This is the same collection that exhibits at the State and Marion County fair. The VFW #661 will donate uniforms to B-17 Alliance for its traveling exhibit trailer. This exhibit is in the works and a vision plan underway. “This partnership is like a dream from heaven come true,” stated E.D. Terry Scott. “Thomas and his crew are dedicated and extremely knowledgable about each detail of these uniforms. This is could be a dying bread and we don’t want this knowledge lost. It is my hope that we can build a long term partnership providing housing and an ongoing site for this collection to be appreciated and continue to grow and inspire generations.”
